In Changeling: The Lost, you take on the role of an ordinary person who has seen the extraordinary. Lured or abducted by the alien Gentry, you have passed the gates and Hedges between our world and the vast fantastic. Changeling: The Lost began in 2007, and amassed some of the most passionate fans the Chronicles of Darkness has ever known. Now, it’s reborn in its second edition, which tells new tales and builds on lessons learned in the past ten years. We’re jumping back into the brambles, and letting the scar tissue from last time protect us. Changeling: The Lost, Second Edition will include the many kinds of changelings and their Courts, powers and other perks for the Lost, antagonists such as Huntsmen, Hedge Ghosts, and of course the True Fae, and cities from around the world with their own local Courts.

Hello backers!!!

We're into the FINAL HOUR of the kickstarter campaign for the second edition of CHANGELING: THE LOST. Amazing. 

And, we're ending with as much excitement as when we started. We're are closing in rapidly on the final stretch goal - adding Tokens to the Changeling Companion. Can we hit it within the final hour? It's going to be close...

BEFORE THE CAMPAIGN ENDS

Checklist: Reward Tier, Add-Ons, Pledge Total

If you want a PDF copy of the rules only, ensure that you've selected a $25 or $35 reward tier.

If you want a hardcover copy, ensure that you've selected a reward tier that is $50 or greater. Note that the reward tiers that include a hardcover copy ALSO include a PDF copy... and ALSO include shipping charges.

If you have chosen a PDF only reward tier, decide if you *may* want to get a Print-On-Demand copy at a future time. If so, make sure you've chosen the $35 Seeker of the Silent Arrow tier.

If you have chosen a PDF only reward tier, decide if you want to receive the Kith & Kin PDF supplement when it becomes available. If so, add +$15 to your Pledge Total.

If you want to receive the Arcadian Memories bundle, check to see if your reward tier includes it. If it doesn't, look at the next reward tier level (usually $10 greater) and think about changing to that reward tier, otherwise you can add +$10 to your Pledge Total.

Finally, see if there are any other add-ons you wish to receive (A screen? A core rules bundle?) and add that amount to your Pledge Total.

Checklist: Payment and Contact Information

Finally, ensure that the payment and contact information in your kickstarter account is up to date and correct. Making sure your e-mail is entered correctly and your credit card isn't expired will speed up the next step process. (I have learned from experience!)

AFTER THE CAMPAIGN ENDS

First, we celebrate. Kickstarter will send out a "Hooray!" email confirming the campaign ended with final totals. We'll give high fives in the comments section.

Then, the Kickstarter payment process begins. Over the next two weeks (possibly a bit longer, due to holiday schedules), kickstarter will begin charging your payment methods for the total amount you've pledged. 

Once this step is done, which will likely be at the beginning of January, Kickstarter will confirm everything with Onyx Path and transfer the funds over to them (less the Kickstarter fees, of course!).

Once the payment is confirmed, I can begin to set up the project with BackerKit and link it to the Kickstarter data.

Backerkit is a robust fulfillment management program that will allow us to work with all of the data and distribute the rewards to you. It will take me around a week to set the project up. Once I've got it all entered and built, the team from BackerKit will review to ensure I didn't mess anything up too badly, and then I'll make any changes they've suggested and we can move on to the Survey stage.

BACKERKIT SURVEYS

Once BackerKit says I'm good to go, I will send out a survey to all backers. This is why confirming your e-mail is important! The survey will list the reward tier you've chosen, confirm all of the rewards associated with that reward tier, and confirm your total pledge amount.

If you opted to include any Add-On rewards to your pledge, this is the point where you will select them. BackerKit will tell deduct the cost of your reward tier (+shipping) from your total pledge and show you how much you have to allocate for add-on purchases. You simply select the ones you want and proceed. From that point forward, those add-ons will be included in your list of rewards.

During the Survey period, you can also choose to increase your reward tier. If you've had a great holiday and decide it's time to trade up to get two copies of the book or include another add-on, you can do so at this time. Note, you will not be able to reduce your reward tier selection, only increase.

The survey will ask you to confirm your shipping address, even though it'll be some time before we ship out the final product. Do not worry about moving during the next year - you will be able to update BackerKit right up until the point that we begin shipping the final books.

REWARD DISTRIBUTION

Once we've got the majority of the surveys confirmed, I will be able to begin some of the digital reward fulfillment. I'm targeting the end of January/beginning of February for this (assuming surveys are mostly complete).

The first rewards to go out will be the Arcadian Memories bundle, the Chronicles of Darkness core rules bundle, and the Chronicles of Darkness Core Rulebook on its own.

After that, we begin the process of building the Changeling: The Lost second edition core rulebook, and begin work on the other items added during this campaign (the Companion, Kith & Kin, the Jumpstart, etc.). 

This is a long process, but I will send out regular updates (usually at the end of the month) to keep you up to speed on our progress. There will be strings of updates that are just "still working on it," but I will share new artwork or information when I can. 

Eventually, we will have a completed PDF of the core book. We'll take some time to distribute, review, and compile any errata or corrections that need to be made. When we're made any necessary changes, we'll send out an update copy of the PDF and then begin creating print-ready files for the hardcover, and then eventually the PoD version.

It's a long road ahead, but one that we wouldn't be on if not for your support.

Apologies to all of the suggestions - for stretch goals, for add-ons, for other options - that I either wasn't able to include or didn't have time to make happen. I wrote down every suggestion, and even if I wasn't able to get it done for this campaign, it will help me put together the next kickstarter that I manage for Onyx Path. I truly appreciate the feedback and input and think we can continue to make these campaigns exciting and rewarding.

Hello Backers!

We've got just under 4 hours to go, and just under $4,000 until we achieve our next stretch goal.

Is it possible to get a section on Tokens added to the Changeling: The Lost Companion? 

ABSOLUTELY!

History and projection sites all show that achieving another $4,000 today is well within the realm of possibility. But it won't be easy - it'll require some effort and a final push to make it happen.

SO

1) Spread the word! One final tweet, share, post, hashtag! Friends don't let friends miss out on joining in on this kickstarter! :)

2) Review your reward tier level - ensure that the reward tier you've chosen gives you the rewards you're hoping to receive.

3) Add add-ons - ensure you've added dollars to cover any add-ons to your Total Pledge Amount.

FINAL 24 HOURS - WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED (SO FAR...)

Hello Changeling Ambassadors,

We've entered the final 24 hours of this kickstarter campaign, and have our last opportunity to invite new backers to join us in growing this project. Every new backer we add bring us closer to another stretch goal. Here's a list of what we've accomplished so far:

FUNDED! - The most important goal, the number one accomplishment! Together, we've raised enough funds to take this book from a manuscript to a finished project. Changeling: The Lost will have a second edition created, published, and distributed to game stores because of you and your support. Huge pat on the back, because you did this in ONE DAY!

That was the main goal of the campaign. Every thing else is gravy. But what awesome gravy:

FICTION ANTHOLOGY - Four novellas will be written, set in the Changeling: The Lost universe, themed around the seasons of the kickstarter campaign: Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Yes, those are also the seasons that we all know, but the important fact is we added them, one-by-one, as we moved through each phase of the campaign and kept the project growing. This is a bonus reward that will go to all backers receiving a PDF copy of the Changeling 2nd Edition core rules.

INCREASED ART BUDGET - Hey, who doesn't like more amazing art? We've increased the art budget for the Changeling: The Lost core book so that we can cram more into the final product. It's going to be beautiful.

CHANGELING D10 FOR THE ONYXDICE APP - Have you checked out the OnyxDice app available for iOS and Android? A special Changeling: The Lost-themed d10 will be created and, as a bonus reward, all backers receiving a PDF version of the second edition Core Rules will be able to unlock this die for free.

CHANGELING: THE LOST JUMPSTART - The easiest way to launch your second edition Changeling: The Lost chronicle, this PDF tool set will include a rules and a setting overview, as well as pre-generated characters and a complete introductory scenario. Again, this will be included as a bonus reward to all backers receiving a PDF version of the second edition Core Rules.

CHANGELING: THE LOST 2nd Edition COMPANION - Want more rules, examples, options, and inspiration? Over the course of the campaign, we've added three sections (so far - entitlements, freeholds, courts) to this PDF supplement, which will update Entitlements for 2e and give some examples. It will discuss the ins-and-outs of what a freehold does day-to-day and how it can be structured, and provide some more example freeholds with expanded setting information and story hooks (maybe with some NPCs!) The supplement will also expand on courts, including some information on making Bargains with new court patrons, and on expanding the role and function of Mantles. And of course, more example courts, including Mantles, Contracts, and other mechanics to go along with them. Again, this PDF supplement will be a bonus reward to all backers receiving a PDF version of the second edition Core Rules.

KITH & KIN - Together, we've unlocked 5 of 6 regalia-themed additions, adding more kith and options for your Changeling: The Lost second edition game. This PDF supplement will also include other kiths that don't fall into any of those categories, as well as some information about Contracts of other- or no-Regalia and striking deals to learn them, advice and best practices for players, and more about the everyday lives of fae beings in general. This supplement (which may still gain one more section!) will be a bonus reward to all backers receiving a traditionally-printed, hardcover version of the second edition Core Rules OR anyone who has added it to their rewards as a +$15 add-on.

ARCADIAN MEMORIES - A celebration of the first edition of Changeling: The Lost, this PDF bundle currently contains the following titles:

  • Update #19 (Dec 8) covered Add-Ons, the second step in calculating your Total Pledge Level (Reward Tier + Shipping + Add-Ons) that'll give you all of the rewards you're looking for.

  • Update #25 (Dec 12) features Darker Days podcast with guest Meghan Fitzgerald, discussing Changeling: The Lost and other Chronicles of Darkness games. 
  • Update #24 (Dec 11) discusses the Arcadian Memories PDF bundle and dives into each title included (up to that point...)
  • Update #23 (Dec 11) explains why I called you Ambassadors at the top of the post, and gives suggestions and encouragement on spreading the word about this campaign! And there's still time! 24 hours to go!

I'll send updates as we achieve additional stretch goals (I hope I send three out today!). Tomorrow, I'll send my final update before the campaign ends, detailing the expected steps once the campaign ends. I'll give you a hint - the first step will be high-fives, immediately followed by step two: collapse in exhaustion! But I'll also talk about kickstarter fee processing times, holiday breaks, surveys, and when you can expect to hear from me on those post-campaign phases.
